Theoretical Framework/Approach: The theoretical framework section develops the theories or models to be used in the study and shows how the student has developed testable research hypotheses.

The Social Comparison Theory (SCT) proposed by Festinger serves as the theoretical framework for this study (1954). According to the SCT, individuals should compare themselves to others in order to evaluate their own abilities, opinions, and social status. Users can use social media to compare themselves to others, which can lead to negative social comparisons and have an impact on their mental health. Furthermore, Deci and Ryan (1985) proposed the Self-Determination Theory (SDT), which states that individuals must feel competent, related, and autonomous in order to maintain their mental health. Excessive social media use can reduce feelings of competence and autonomy, leading to a decline in mental health.
